Let Me Tell You My Story

Have I ever told you my story? Here it is ...

On a seemingly normal day in 2003, I walked into the office of my Fortune 100 job, ready to start my day when I was summoned to the boss's office for a meeting. Little did I know that meeting would be the first day of the rest of my life. I was given the pink slip. I was shown the door due to "workforce reduction" to save money for a multi-billion company. That day I felt expendable. That pink slip told me that my services were no longer needed. Despite my years of quality service and my amazing performance evaluations, I was no longer needed.

For a few weeks, I was in a state of denial. What was I going to do? I was married with a teenage daughter and a mortgage. My heart and spirit were broken. I turned to the only person with the answers, God. I prayed. I prayed a lot. I prayed for direction, clarity, and healing. You know what? God answered my prayers. He placed an idea on my heart that seemed totally crazy yet totally right for me. It was my assignment. He told me to sell the desserts I was making for friends and family to my friends and family. I had never considered opening a business. I was a laid-off corporate business manager, not a business owner. This was not my comfort zone. I turned to scripture to help strengthen my resolve. I was so scared. I had no idea where to start.

So many questions came up. What is the right pricing? How can I tell folks about me? It was so daunting. Eventually, I had to rely on the knowledge I gained from Google searches and guess-ti-mation. Even though I was fearful, I gained the courage to actually charge for a dozen cupcakes. It worked! I was elated when I got my first sale. In my heart, I knew I would be ok since God gave me the idea, yet believing that He would never leave me nor forsake me took some time. I acted on pure faith when I officially opened my first brick and mortar 2 years later. It's hard to believe that was over 15 years ago.

Listen, I understand what it is like to have a dream yet you can't figure out where to start. I know how it feels to trust God yet be fearful that you may be ill-equipped to handle it all. I know it is all overwhelming and you don't have the time nor the energy to waste.
